Le Corbusier (1887 – 1965)
Born in Switzerland and established in France, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret (better known as Le Corbusier) distinguished himself in painting and sculture; he is today famous for his contribute to urban planning in XX Century.
He attended the Art School in his native town, Chaux de Fonds, gaining notoriety in the field of design (Grand Prize at the Decorative Arts Exhibition in Turin) and dedicating his attention to architecture. Le Corbusier travelled around Europe and settled then in Paris, where he came in contact with cubism and its exponents. In this period he began to exhibit his works at major galleries in Paris and at the same time he combined this passion with the activity as architect, professed with that innovative and functional style which made him earn the hostility of academics but that also led him to worldwide notoriety.
