MARCO LUPI
Cercando di non capire
2 – 30 JUNE 2018
Fondamenta Sant’Anna 996, Castello 30122 – Venice
Every day from 11.00 AM to 19.00 PM
The instinctive reaction, the immediacy of the first visual impact, are fundamental for pure emotions to arise.
They give a unique and profound value to what one is looking at.Sometimes, there’s nothing to understand.
There is really nothing to know in order to understand. It is enough simply to live intensely the preciousness and strength of an emotion.
In total freedom.Leaving aside motivations, descriptions, conditioning.
When the emotion touches you and becomes visceral it is something indescribable.
It’s just “yours” and nobody else’s.Marco Lupi
THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition gathers some of the works of Lupi’s most recent production, from 2016 to today. It is set up in the spaces managed by VAP Venice Art Project in Fondamenta Sant’Anna 996, Castello district and will be open to the public from June 2nd– 30th, in conjunction with the 16th Architecture Biennale.
Known for his highly personal style based on a mixed technique of painting, collage, insertion of fabrics, sand and papers, Marco Lupi usually brings on his canvas the moment of his own memory and his unconscious: episodes of his life, familiar faces, moments really lived, family affections and everything that is part of personal emotional microcosm of his daily life and his childhood. All with an artistic action dominated by casualties and instinct.
There is in the art of Lupi a playful, ironic and irreverent dimension, far from too complex or rational readings, which is well summarized by the title of this exhibition.
Marco Lupi was born in Balerna on 6th May 1958. He first attended the School Centre for the Arts Industry in Lugano (CSIA, Centro Scolastico Industrie Artistiche) and later he completed his formation by pursuing his own stylistic and expressive research in total autonomy. His first exhibition dates back to 1985. In the following years he regularly exhibited in Ticino and the rest of Switzerland, and in Italy too, participating in several collective exhibitions. Since 1987 Lupi has been living in Mendrisio, where he established his studio inside an old railway toll. In 2009 he moved his atelier in a room within the Chiasso railway station. Since 2005 he’s been a proactive member of Visarte Ticino.

VAP Venice Art Projects is a Start-up designed and created by Edoardo Cimadori, project manager and producer of contemporary art exhibitions between Belgium and Italy. VAP was born with the aim of presenting and promoting artists, contemporary art, design and performing arts in their own venues, five former artisan shops located in Venice in the charming Castello district. For the occasion, Aymone Poletti, with the support of Artrust, exhibits her works in an ancient newly restored becarìa.
