LETIZIA CARIELLO

CARILLON – OPERA FOR STRINGS.
FROM 27 OCTOBER TO 28 NOVEMBER

At
LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura
Piazza Bernardino Luini 6
CH – 6901 Lugano

The artist redeems from AXA-Art, two damaged cellos, a sounding board and unusable arches, not only without the body but also devoid of the same nature: the ability to create sound, to give harmony.

Letizia has carefully fixed with steel and red velvet giving them a new voice. It is no longer the hand of the musician, who uses bow to touch the strings and produce the sound, but it is the music itself, which vibrates from the reborn tools’ womb. A new harmony, which arises from a different nature: the recorded sound is a product from the space from the rings of Saturn and of the Sun. The melody spreads whenever rotated cellos return slowly to their starting point, drawing a circle. The eternal rotation of the time and the planets is materialized by a calendar engraved on a large steel disc.

With Carillon – Opera for strings, the man plays the voice of the space.

The work was produced by Galleria Massimo Minini, under the patronage of AXA-Art and the support from the LCA legal studio. The artist would like to thank Giorgio and Gabriella Antonini, irreplaceable promoters of the presentation of Carillon to the public of the LAC.

THE ARTIST

Letizia Cariello was born in Copparo, into a family of Neapolitan origin that has devoted to sculpture for over two hundred years. Before focusing on committing in art, she has worked for cinema in Italy and in the United States. Her artworks can be found in public and private collections in Italy and abroad.

The work of Letizia Cariello explores through different media, the themes of the body, of the time and its relationship with objects. They were investigated in relations between interior and exterior space, affections and the spiritual quest with particular attention to the angels.

These arguments characterize the performances, the installations and her photographic production.

Particular attention is devoted to the theme of time, which is explored through the writing of the “calendars”: a long sequence of numbers and letters that represent an exercise of Western meditation intended to materialize the time in a perceivable form.

The use of the red wire both in embroidery and in installations embodies the attitude of listening and support the artist towards the reality that surrounded her.

She lives and works in Milan, where she teaches Artistic Anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.

«CARILLON – OPERA FOR STINGS IS A MULTIMEDIA INSTALLATION THAT COMES FROM THOUGHTS TO HELP, LISTENING TIME AND CARE, WHICH ARE THE CONDUCTOR WIRE TO MY WORK».

ARTRUST AND LETIZIA CARIELLO

“The meeting with Letizia Cariello started, as often happens, by a chance encounter, through our common friend that allowed us to know each other. Right from the beginning, it has taken an empathy that mutually pushed us to deepen our acquaintance, in the sign of love for art.

Then a series of favorable coincidences has meant that this relation could evolved into a genuine partnership. Our paths have crossed, in fact, in the year that Artrust has decided to dedicate to female artists, and when Letizia is, for the first time, approaching the Swiss art stage with the installation “Carillon – Opera for Strings” at the LAC of Lugano .

The occasion of WopArt fair has marked the beginning of this collaboration: at our stand, we have indeed proposed a selection of drawings by Letizia.

It is for us a new path, because we usually do not collaborate with contemporary artists. It is a road that we have decided to go along with Letizia, supporting her presence on the Swiss territory, for a reason that, as always in my experience, is born from personal taste: I love Letizia artworks and for this I am happy to contribute to the spreading of the works. ”

Patrizia Cattaneo Moresi, Director of Artrust.

“Patrizia and I, we met for a design of destiny. When things like this happen, we realize that our room for maneuver on the events of life essentially consists of listening and following to the voice of the heart.

“ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR FIRST SENSATION. The head should remain back,” it is the angel’s teaching and so it is.

I see that by joining my way with Artrust, a dimensional prospect of the future will provided me with a sense of relief as I gather my strength. I have always been attracted to and inspired by Switzerland as a gateway to the world. It is Central European freedom together with the global setting, which keeps resisting from the time of the Abbey of St. Gall’s plant and Patrizia, she embodies to perfection. I do feel a constructive concrete energy and sensitive, empathetic but extremely respectful to the mystery of the creative process.

This young woman proceeds with a confident pace, exactly because she focuses on it. This is very similar to my calendar. ”
