Street and Art
We cannot understand Street Art if we ignore its origins. We cannot look at this explosion of colour, without recalling the gray urban suburbs where it was born. If Street Art had a sound, it would be the screeching noise of a metropolitan train. If it had a smell, it would be the spray paint that assaults the nostrils and burns the throat, mixing with the smog of the city. Street Art is ugly, dirty, bad. It bites, it taunts, it scandalizes. It is rage that becomes rebellion. Rebellion of colour. Street Art is art as much as it is street. We cannot separate the two aspects. The street is the meaning. The street with its rules and codes.
