An explosive title that won’t pass unnoticed: “DUO : NIKI / JEAN.”
How can a duo exhibition be a four handed – or more – one, both in the organization and setting?
Before we looked at the pictures you sent us, we would never have imagined such a presentation. We expected some confusion but, not at all. The works are well distributed, alternating volumes on the pedestals and the second dimensions on the different walls. Without choosing a systematic setting, the general composition is successful, since the gaze can run smoothly. It moves from one level to another, while savoring sensations, ideas, spaces, colors and shapes.
A wise idea to use the black background to interrupt a total white space. Instead of stacking the works, they help to highlight them. Essential down time, meditative mind breathing before proceeding.
Jean TINGUELY, often austere, becomes a cheerful young man who doesn’t lack of fantasy. In particular, his work in a full elongation, as if it were looking for air, is an unexpected sensuality. The man-machine, or the mechanics of our biochemical components revealed by PICABIA, take a new impetus through the metal corporeities of TINGUELY. Such as, for example, the circuit steps within the DUCHAMP « Grand Verre ». Then, in the darkness, the disorder of its windings that whisper between the shadows, reflections, and lighting of a secret place.
As for NIKI, she can turn heavyweight into curious characters who dance with an exciting lightness. With her simplicity, she expresses herself with ingredients able to rejoice the saddest office of an old lawyer spoiled by his traditionalism. In the group of artists that marked their time such as GAUDI and MIRÓ, NIKI de SAINT PAHLLE can enchant everyone. And it is in the hall that her great picture « to-be-dis-cov-ered-by-si-mul-ta-nei-ty » invites us to experiment an out of ordinary visit.

Un titre explosif qui ne passera pas inaperçu : “DUO : NIKI / JEAN.”
De quelle façon le duo d’une exposition peut-elle être à 4 mains, ou plusieurs mains pour l’organiser et la monter ?
Avant d’avoir regardé les photos que vous nous avez envoyées, nous n’aurions jamais imaginé une telle présentation. On s’attendait à une certaine confusion mais, pas du tout. Les œuvres y sont bien distribuées, tout en alternant les volumes sur leurs socles mobiles et les deuxièmes dimensions aux murs qui ne se copient pas. Sans se butter à un accrochage et placement systématiques, la composition générale est bien réussie, puisque l’œil ne reste pas sec. Il voyage d’un plan à l’autre, tout en savourant sensations, idées, espaces, couleurs et formes.
Très judicieuse l’utilisation de certains fonds noirs pour scander un espace trop blanc. Au lieu de bousculer les œuvres les unes après les autres, Ils aident à les mettre en valeur. Temps d’arrêt indispensable, respiration méditative de l’esprit avant de passer aux suivantes.
Jean TINGUELY, souvent austère, devient un jeune homme allègre dans cette exposition qui ne manque pas de fantaisie. Tout particulièrement, son œuvre en pleine élongation qui va chercher de l’air au-delà d’une sensualité inattendue. L’homme-machine, ou la mécanique de nos composantes biochimiques, révélées par PICABIA, prennent un nouvel essor à travers les corporéités métalliques de TINGUELY. Voire, aussi, les étapes du circuit à l’intérieur du « Grand Verre » de DUCHAMP. Puis, dans l’obscurité, le trouble de ses sinuosités qui murmurent entre les ombres, reflets, et lumières d’un coin secret.
Quant à NIKI, elle sait bien transformer ses poids lourds en de curieux personnages qui dansent avec une légèreté passionnante. Avec son naturel habituel, elle s’exprime avec tous les ingrédients capables de réjouir le plus triste des bureaux (ou bourreaux) d’un vieil avocat rongé par son traditionalisme alarmant. Dans la ligne des grands artistes qui ont marqué leur époque comme GAUDI et MIRÓ, NIKI de SAINT PAHLLE déploie une œuvre qui enchante tous les regards. Et c’est en parcourant l’entrée, que son grand portrait « à-dé-cou-vrir-par-si-mul-ta-né-ité » nous invite à expérimenter une visite hors du commun.
